Sabine turns 2

In the midst of a global pandemic, we still made sure to celebrate Sabine turning two. I made one of my favourite cakes from Sweet Laurel bakery (gluten & dairy free, plus only sweetened with honey!), strung up a garland and set up dinner on the patio. She was so pleased to wear her little flower crown and twirl around the garden. This ‘in between’ weather and the hopeful spring blooms will always make me think of those first precious months when we brought her home.

Her vocabulary has exploded (with the sweetest raspy voice), and she literally never stops singing. I walk by her bedroom late at night or early in the morning and she’s just singing all her favourite songs. I’m hoping that she doesn’t inherit her mother’s voice… but if she does, I hope it doesn’t stop her from singing.

She is so well mannered and always saying “thank you” and “please”. She also always adds the name of the person she’s addressing to the end of her sentence. When her big sister is crying, she’ll alternate from tough love, telling her to be quiet/calm down, to stroking her hair and telling her “it’s ok, Louella.” Right around nap time, she asks to go to bed. Her favourite toys are her Maileg mouses and Peppa Pig figures. Sometimes she will sneak away and I’ll find her quietly ‘reading’ in Louella’s bed. She loves everything “baby” and little. I’m a bit worried about the identity crisis she will go through when/if we have another baby. Unfortunately, she loves Caillou (hopefully she isn’t learning any of his piss poor behaviours) and Curious George (I prefer the monkey’s manners). Though she can be a bit rough, and isn’t so delicate with things (RIP my flowers), she is very strong. Her strength comes in the face of pain as well as in the face of adversity… she likes to get what she wants, when she wants it, and she isn’t afraid to yell that much you. Her feelings are big and her reactions are emotionally driven. Her laughter is a deep belly laugh that fills your heart up. She loves hide and seek, though she’s much more successful at the seeking part. The girls love to do ballet together, play side by side with their dollhouses and play ‘chase’. Their bond is everything I had ever dreamt.
