At home with my girls

The past few weeks with the girls have been my favourite to date. After a year as a family of 4, we have really started to find our rhythm together. Sabine is finally more independent (after being very clingy and needy for mom - something I did not experience with my Louella). Crawling and standing has opened up the world to her. She is more adventurous and can spend more time in the bedroom playing side by side with Louella. Thankfully, aside from a few light playful shoves and pokes, Louella is very gentle with her baby sister. If Sabine starts to fuss or cry, Louella runs over with a toy or book, pats her on the head and says “It’s ok, baby, shhh it’s ok”. Which shatters my mother’s heart in the best way. So far it is everything I’d dreamt sisterhood might be for them.

It still surprises me (and most others) how similar yet how different they can look. They seem to have the same head/face shape, same eyes, and full lips. But their noses are different. Their facial expressions are also so different, as their contrasting personalities shine through, which also makes them look slightly different. As Sabine grows up, and looses some of her delightful baby weight, she does look more and more like Louella.

These two are truly my whole world. I’m enjoying every moment, even the more difficult ones, knowing full well I’ll look back on these days as the best in my life. I am loving the security and confidence that comes with my 30’s. I feel more whole than I have in my entire life, like I’m living exactly the way I was meant to.
