Baby Makes 4
It's time to make it official.
Before I left for Europe in September I told my best friend (and the bride-to-be in Italy) that I had a feeling I would be pregnant for her wedding (lamenting, in humour, that I wouldn't be able to drink my way through Chianti). She joked that I should wait until I came back to take a pregnancy test. It was really just a nagging thought deep in the back of my head. After we had Louella in January, we had kept ourselves 'protected' until August. We had an amazing month in the new home with our baby, it was a beautiful summer and we were 'twitterpated'. We talked about it many times over the years, we both know that we want a few kids and ideally close together.
Off we went to Germany, and then Belgium, through Northern France creating memories we will cherish forever. It was just outside Mont-St-Michel in our golden room in the Chateau Bouclee that I couldn't ignore the nagging feeling anymore (or the morning sickness). I took the test and waited until we arrived in Caen the next day to tell Jakob. We were completely over the moon.
Did I think we would have our kids just 16 months apart? No, I thought it would be closer to 24-30 months. But there is really no 'right way' to do it. There are pro's and con's to spacing your kids and to having them in quick succession. I come from a big family (with large gaps between us), Jakob is 18 months from his brother, and we both have great relationships with all of our siblings. Fond memories. And the birth order and space between us certainly affected our personalities and our inter personal relationships. But we wouldn't change any of it.
That said - we are welcoming our second baby mid to late May 2018. We will be in the 'new baby fog' for a least another year or two.
